Morgantina è stata identificata nel 1955 da una spedizione di archeologi dell’università di Princeton USA che riuscì a mettere in luce quanto era rimasto dopo la distruzione ordinata da Ottaviano nel 36 a.C.
Lungo il perimetro di questa bellissima Area Archeologica ad Aidone sono visibili le antiche mura di cinta.
Sull’Acropoli, oltre ad alcune capanne costruite dall’antico popolo dei Morgeti, si trovano i resti più antichi della città, compresa l’area sacra.
La zona più interessante di Morgantina è certamente l’Agorà, disposta su due livelli (quello inferiore riservato ai riti sacri, quello superiore per fini commerciali e pubblici) collegati da una grande scalinata.
I reperti recuperati oggi sono in buona parte custoditi dal museo di Aidone, ordinati per temi e cronologia, illustrano ai visitatori le varie vicende della cittadina.

Le long du périmètre scindé des anciens murs se dévoile cette belle région archéologique d'Aidone.
L'Acropole, en plus de quelques huttes construites par les anciens habitants de Morgeti, sont les vestiges les plus anciens de la ville.
La zone la plus intéressante de Morgantina est certainement l'Agora, sur deux niveaux (inférieur réservé aux rituels sacrés, le supérieur à des fins commerciales et publiques) reliés par un grand escalier.
Les objets retrouvées aujourd'hui sont en grande partie détenues par le musée de Aidone, classé par thèmes et chronologie, illustrer aux visiteurs les différents événements de la ville.

Along the split perimeter of the ancient walls is revealed this beautiful archaeological region of Aidone.
The Acropolis, in addition to a few huts built by the ancient inhabitants of Morgeti, are the oldest vestiges of the city.
The most interesting area of Morgantina is certainly the Agora, on two levels (lower reserved for sacred rituals, the higher for commercial and public purposes) connected by a large staircase.
The objects found today are largely owned by the Aidone Museum, classified by themes and chronology, to illustrate to visitors the different events of the city.
